Reason: PPMs were designed for internal efforts to improve the quality of establishments. This data is not shared by the CDC with CMS or other entities. The data are used for surveillance and prevention of infections in the health sector (HAI) and not for legal and regulatory measures. Access to data is provided for the HAI programme for prevention actions. To identify the HAI coordinator in your national ministry of health, click on the CDC`s public shark prevention website on your state: www.cdc.gov/HAI/state-based/index.html. Yes, an institution may continue to use NHSN for the prosecution and prevention of HAIs within an institution, while partially or completely renouncing data sharing via the DUA. To opt out, the organization removes relevant hais events from its monthly reporting plans, i.e. it changes voluntary reporting. In addition to the NHSN data use agreements, health services have additional options for accessing data reported to NHSN by health institutions in their legal systems, as described in this table.
The data usage agreement allows CDC to share data earlier and in more detail with the public health department than the use of CMS` Hospital Compare. Many health services have an effective and collaborative relationship with institutions under their jurisdiction, including the prioritization of prevention programmes and the possibility of implementing complementary REQUIN prevention projects. The agreement on the use of data can thus foster further cooperation between institutions and health services. Table: Options for access to NHSN data by the CDC of Health Services (HD) and your public, local or territorial health department have entered into a Data Use Agreement (AEA). The Ministry of Health has access to data reported to the CDC`s National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) by health facilities under jurisdiction. The new provisions should allow access to data only for surveillance and prevention purposes. The overall objective of the new access rules is to increase the value of data reported to NHSN for public health purposes.
